New STEM kits for 3Doodler Start let kids 3D draw their own robotic dinosaurs, insects, more

At the upcoming American International Toy Fair 2018, WobbleWorks, the company behind the famous 3Doodler 3D printing pen, will be unveiling its latest kid-friendly product series. Somewhat surprisingly, it’s not a new 3D pen model, but I’m sure it will excite its customers equally.

Called the 3Doodler Start STEM series kits, the new line of products are meant to be used in combination with the child-friendly 3Doodler Start 3D printing pen and include activities, “Doodlemolds,” and even some robotic components.

The idea with the new STEM kits is to get kids to create their own robotic figures, including dinosaurs, skeletons, and even scientific instruments using the 3D pen. A 10-year-old me would have loved the thought of this.

WobbleWorks has also collaborated with HexBug, a company known for its robotic insects, to launch a HexBug edition of the STEM kits which include bug-shaped molds (that kids can 3D draw into) and some simple motorized components which will ultimately allow their 3D printed bugs to roam, scuttle, and even race.

Additional, slightly less complex Doodlemolds are being released as well, which will give kids a template for 3D drawing key rings, eyeglasses, costume masks, and more.

In terms of price, the HexBug 3Doodler Start kit will be retailing for $60 (and will be available as of May). The other STEM kits—which do not come with a 3Doodler Start 3D printing pen—will be available for between $20 and $30. The DoodleMolds are on the cheaper end for just $15 per themed kit.
